About

As a professional, I have over 15 years of experience in design management, design strategy, design research, design-thinking, brand communications, service design consulting and design practice. I managed and directed design teams both as an owner in Charlotte, NC, and as an operations director in Pittsburgh, PA.  I currently manage a team of UX researchers for a Fortune 100 tech company.

As a researcher, I design tools that enable communities to "recommon" resources that are essential to their survival. I have worked with various collectives to gain perspectives on how to help them better intervene in social dilemmas.

As an educator, I engage in theories & pedagogy on alternative economics, pluriversal design, decoloniality, and on technological innovations that explore how we live together. I teach design at the undergraduate and graduate university levels

As a speaker, I have been invited to speak on podcasts, give graduation speeches, lead workshops and deliver keynotes at conferences globally. I engage in theories that explore the benefits of and challenges with technological innovation. Topics I have shared include design-enabled recommoning, designers as allies, and pluriversal design. They span alternative economics, design-thinking, design for social innovation, diversity and inclusion in UX, commons & commoning, decoloniality, transition design, allyship, and algorithmic bias.

As an artist, my paintings explore how we live together. I use color boldly and simply to create a luminous quality of melancholia, allowing the viewer a powerful sense of human-ness and a presence of the spiritual.

Education: I earned a BA with honors (summa cum laude) in Advertising/Design & Studio Art from Concord University, an MBA in Management from UNC Charlotte and a Ph.D. in Design from Carnegie Mellon University.
